I figured I should let Oppo know, I sold my infamous PT Cruiser last night. I’ve own the car for 9 years and put 87k miles on it, it was the first
car I have ever personally owned. I was emotionally attached despite it being a slow car.
There were numerous factors that came into play. Firstly the oil cooler mount was warped and busted; it was being held together by zip ties and a prayer. Because the mount was bad, it was slowly but surely tearing the radiator apart as well. I was quoted $1000 to get it fixed. The whole point of having a car for the wife was so she can drive it, i was no longer comfortable with her driving it because the oil cooler might fall again. My hand was a bit forced.
I traded it in for $500 (more than i expected honestly) and made good on a 2 year long promise to my wife that “the next car we get will be a mini van for you.” That promise is now fulfilled. Now once the van is paid off, i can work on getting a fun car...
So Oppo, if you can, do a donut in your car in remembrance of Jolly Roger, the PT Cruiser of Oppositelock.

Damn dude, I missed seeing the Jolly Roger around here. Truly the end of an era.

should’ve set it alight
:P
is the minivan new or used?

Indeed. It became a mattet of priorities; do i keep my first car and pour money into it? Or trade it in for another one? Well, as a father i have to look out
for the family.

I actually wanted to rally it, but I’m semi confident what little value was left would go away. I sort of needed that $500 trade in value, lol.
Its used, a 2010 model. Literally just went out to look at it, but realized the previous owners took meticulous care of it
. Just before they sold it, they replaced the motor mounts. That isnt cheap. Higher mileage too, but its going to be a grocery getter and
‘visit the inlaws’ vehicle.

I think Jolly Roger was the last PT owned by an Opponaught.
![]() 09/10/2019 at 08:29 |

Well, the last opponaught who vocally admitted to owning one.

They’re still cooler than the Saturn Ions I owned. By a long shot. Jack Baruth taught me Neons are cool

You always remember your first even if it was bad.
![]() 09/10/2019 at 09:03 |

Especially if its bad. Lol

I think I may have been the first.

The alpha and omega, the first
and last in one thread.
*salutes the fellow former pt cruiser owner*

I snuck into her house at 11pm on a school night, and.... oh. You mean cars.

Rat rod life. Even the spare was red lol

My ex says that the best car she’s ever owned was her PT Cruiser, and I honestly believe it. She’s gone from a moldy Caravan, to a Cavalier, to a $300 BMW that died on the way home from purchasing it, then the Cruiser which her boyfriend at the time totalled, and now a Ford Ranger with 350000 miles and two blown shocks. I keep telling her to just get a Crown Vic if she wants a cheap car that will last, but whatever.

Well I guess it works that way too.
;)

Awesome. Just as nature intended.

Thats... She needs to be smarter buying cars. I've had good luck with my grand prix. Car is slowly dying but the engine is still strong.

Sad. A of is going to be my first car so seeing someone else letting it go is sad.

Looks like a pretty nice van.
![]() 09/10/2019 at 10:16 |

I’ll bet fixing the one you had to make it “good” again would still be cheaper than buying a new one.

You can see some of the completely unnecessary poly bushing kit I installed.

Unnecessary is the best kind of necessary.

It is. Went to the dealership to only check it out, and if i was interested to fully be prepared to walk away because there are othet vans out
there. Was impressed with the condition, besides
the exterior body issues. But i was looking more for function, not fashion.
![]() 09/10/2019 at 10:55 |

That may be, but we've been needing a bigger car for a while. The pt breaking was the cherry on top.

It unfortunately happens. Its hard to say goodbye, but we needed
a bigger car for the family. It was the pt or the prix, and i DD the prix so i still need it.

Stow ’n Go seating? That shit ROCKS . Some really smart packaging.
![]() 09/10/2019 at 11:24 |

Wife knew exactly what she wanted in a van. I was there namely to verify the condition and do the talking.

Nice. Lot s more room under the hood for wrenching, too!
![]() 09/10/2019 at 11:44 |

This. People shit on the PT Cruiser all the time but everyone I know who has owned one has loved it.
![]() 09/10/2019 at 11:44 |

Good trade there.
![]() 09/10/2019 at 12:17 |

I get it. In your instance, it makes sense.
I just always laugh at people who sell an otherwise good car because it needs ______( insert several hundred dollar repair here ) only to spend $5-30k on a different car. The a couple months down the road the “new” car ends up needing something, problem is now they have a payment and can’t afford to fix it.
![]() 09/10/2019 at 13:12 |

I buy cars purely on what my budget is; specifically with an ideal monthly payment in mind.

Its super weird to drive. I like
being low.
![]() 09/10/2019 at 13:14 |

I noticed
that too. I popped the hood and thought “hey, i can put my hands in there”.

I rented a few of the generation of Grand Prix you have. I always thought those were the most comfortable seats ever.

Been a while since I seen you post !
Minivans are the best cheap, big, luxury vehicle you can get, especially a town&county.... I think :)

Heh, my sister has a Crown Vic that breaks down so often that my parents got sick of loaning her their Sedona and bought a cheap PT Dream Cruiser as a family backup car. With any luck it’ll be as reliable as my PT Cruiser GT.

Owned the previous gen Grand Prix, and it was also one of the most comfortable cars I’ve ever been in.

Yeah, those were great too.
